Initial reaction to this DVD player April 29, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have only owned this DVD player for a week, but wanted to add one thing here I noticed about it's initial set up. After correctly installing the a/v inputs from my TV to this unit, and connecting the unit to a power outlet, I turned on this Akai DVD player, and accessed, through the TV's input channel, the main "Akai" logo-their was an audible, and very annoying humming in the background from my TV speakers, which happened only when I had the DVD player on. To eliminate this humming I HAD to connect an S-video cable from this DVD player to the back of my TV. Once the S-video cable was connected the humming stopped. This is the ONLY DVD player I have ever owned that requires an S-video cable be connected from it to a TV in order to eliminate an unwanted audible background noise. I have two other DVD players, one R1 only and the other a multi-region player(Yamakawa), and both operate just fine with a/v cables only(and no s-video cable). ??
