There are no jagged edges with the per-pixel motion adaptive algorithm and a sophisitcated multi-directional diagonal filter. It doesn't get any better than this for viewing enjoyment. HQV's true 1080p HD deinterlacing delivers the sharpest, most detailed HD images possible by employing per-pixel motion adaptive algorithms and a sophisticated multi-directional diagonal filter that ensures video without jagged edges. Setting the Movie Frame (24Fs) feature to ON allows you to adjust the Blu-ray player's HDMI output to 24 frames per second for improved picture quality. The powerful HQV processing engine also provides per-pixel motion adaptive noise-reduction, detail enhancement and advanced scaling delivering premium quality upconverted SD material.

HQV maximizes resolution and detail
For high definition material and allows standard definition to approach High definition. Maximizing Resolution: Converting standard-definition to high definition requires resizing/scaling the image up to 6 times. Converting 1080i interlaced to progressive: 480i/1080i video is broadcast as interlaced where each image contains half of the total picture information. The reconstruction of these half frames is called de-interlacing.

More capacity, more versatility!
Current dual layer Blu-ray discs can hold up to 50GB. That's over 4 hours of HDTV programs, or up to 26 hours of standard definition TV. And thanks to the structure of Blu-ray discs, capacity is likely to increase two-fold in the future.

Complete Backwards Playback compatibility
In addition to playing high-definition BD discs, Samsung Blu-ray technology offers complete backward compatibility. You can still enjoy your current favorite CDs and DVDs, no matter the format. In fact, they look and sound better than ever before, because the BD-P1200 can take your current DVD library and upconvert it to a near high-definition experience via 720p/1080i and 1080p.

User-Friendly Graphic Interface
Samsung's BD-P1200 BD Player includes various user interface menus & subtitle functions to allow consumers to easily discover and search for detailed content regarding the video. The full-color, high-definition animated menu and subtitle effects allow you to incorporate your own personal creative touch.

Easy Top Menu
With the easy top menu, you change the font & color of subtitles and menu titles as well as the background color and menu graphic-all to fit your individual style.

4 out of 5 stars Player works great. Updates could be easier   November 21, 2008
This product has been great. The picture and sound quality are excellent and I think that the player is very good. The only thing that I think needs improving is the process to do the firmwares. It could be a lot easier instead of doing all of the steps to complete the updates. Once the updates are done, all of the newer dvd's worked just fine and I haven't had any problems since. Overall I recommend this player because it is a good quality product.

1 out of 5 stars Absolute Waste of Money   July 29, 2008
The Samsung BD-P1200 is an absolute waste of money. The latest blu-ray titles won't play on it, so I had to do a firmware update. Three hours and a few tears later, I received error messages flashing across my plasma TV after installing the update. But--the firmware update must've worked on the BD-1200 because it played the discs. Then the optical port went bad--fell apart. I sent it in for repairs, but since it was 90 days past purchase date, I had to pay $60 for the repair + $24 for shipping it back. I packed it carefully in its original box and mailed it off. Samsung returned it to me in a cheap packing box with packing peanuts! Needless to say, it won't play anything now--skips, jumps, hops... Since the motherboard has to be replaced in order to replace the optical connector, the firmware update I sweated over is gone as well. I called Samsung and spoke with their incredibly rude "customer service" people. The "fix" is to send it back again, and they'll supposedly fix it, but I can kiss my original box good-bye; they toss those. They did agree to do this repair "for free" and sent a pre-paid shipping label. They also agreed to install the firmware update. Do I have any confidence whatsoever that Samsung will repair this unit to operate the way it's supposed to? Not at all.

1 out of 5 stars i hate this player and samsung support   July 14, 2008
this is the worst experience that i have ever had with any piece of electronic equipment. Samsung is incompetent and doesn't care about service either. this player won't play a BUNCH of the new DVD's and the LAST time i went through this i had to spend HOURS TRYING to download a 'firmware' fix? that finally they had to send me a fix that STILL won't play 1/2 of the new Blu Ray DVD's i buy, I HATE THIS AND FEEL RIPPED OFF, DON'T BUY THIS OR FROM SAMSUNG, SAVE YOURSELF THE AGGREVATION.

3 out of 5 stars Great picture and sound   March 25, 2008

I really like the product when it works. I had a problem upgrading the firmware. I followed the directions and burned a cd. The update hung at a screen for over a half hour. Support told me to kill the power. I was apprehensive since I know it can screw things up. Sure enough, killing the power made it so it didn't work at all. Couldn't even open the tray. Sent in over a month ago for repair and still haven't gotten it back. Samsung now said they will send a replacement since it has taken well beyond a reasonable repair time. Hopefully I get a replacement unit soon. That is what we get for embracing a new technology.

I've had nothing but problems with this DVD player. Samsung FINALLY released a firmware upgrade for POTC: III but it froze my player after I downloaded the update. The download turned my DVD player into a paperweight so I trashed it and will now buy Panasonic.
