Amazon.com Product Description
The ultraslim Apex AD-1225 does double duty as a movie source and a music player, providing high-end video outputs as well as decoding for the popular MP3 and Windows Media Audio music formats. If you burn pictures from a digital camera to CD-Rs and CD-RWs, you can even use the player for watching slideshows right on a TV. Apex's active full screen function (AFF) helps resize widescreen (16:9 aspect ratio) video images to fill 4:3 aspect-ratio sets.

Top-of-the-line component-video outputs help minimize line scan and digital artifacts on compatible advanced televisions, while composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any television. Onboard Active Full-Screen function magnifies widescreen images to utilize the full LCD, eliminating the black bars that normally accompany widescreen programs.

In the audio realm, a sets of left/right analog-audio outputs channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio outputs (one each optical and coaxial) for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. Other features include a video fluorescent display, 2x and 4x picture zoom, frame-by-frame advance, and an LED indicator for power status.

4 out of 5 stars 3-years and it still works   August 19, 2006
I replaced my expensive Panasonic (upon its death) by this inexpensive DVD player. We (kids mainly) watch at least 5-7 dvds per week. It has lasted longer than my previous Panasonic unit and it is less finicky when it comes to playing dvds that have scratches, etc.

I have been happy with the unit. It does not play DVD+R created by computer though.

1 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for need I say more?   July 8, 2006
Super cheap equals no quality. Only lasted about 1 1/2 years. This time it will be Pioneer, Sony, Sanyo, Toshiba etc...

1 out of 5 stars Junk, like my other APEX products.   March 31, 2006
I am apparently a slow learner. I bought this APEX product to replace a previous one that didn't work. This one doesn't, either. It plays some DVD's all the way through, some part way through and some not at all. The web site offers an 8-question FAQ as their entire support page for all models. None of the questions relate to a device that doesn't work.

Save your money, buy something else.

Like everything else this Chinese company makes, it's absolute junk. Avoid this brand entirely.

1 out of 5 stars Bleeeech!   January 31, 2006
I got this deal at Meijer's during their 'After Thanksgiving Day Sale' in 2004 and paid $18.50. Still, this thing should've lasted more than fourteen months. It wouldn't play many DVD's that played fine on my PC. Then it finally went kaputz and wouldn't load anything. This player is suitable for the incarcerated.
