DON'T BE FOOLED BY THIS TV ! November 17, 2007 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
This TV has great hi-def picture , but the audio lags the video ,so that it always looks like a badly dubbed foreign film . I have had two different Sony authorized repair people look at it , one took it to his shop for two weeks, only to report that it's supposed to be that way , and they can't fix it. I have seven friends and neighbors who have all agreed that they can see the problem clearly , but Sony will not admit that anything is wrong . I'll never buy another Sony TV , and neither should you. This might be a good purchase for a deaf family who only watch the subtitles and don't need the audio at all. Everyone else , beware of Sony rear projection technology. You'll regret it !
Sony Grand Wega September 28, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'm very happy about the purchase of my new Sony television. It arrived in perfect condition and very quickly. It has a crisp, clear picture and I don't have any buyer's remorse (which is a first for me)! I would recommend this product to anyone who's looking for a theatre experience right in their own home.
Picture is stunning! September 27, 2007 After doing a lot of research, online and magazines, I decided to go with the Sony. I waited for the new style of this brand to be coming out in a month, and than I ordered mine. The price of $1999 was $200 better than any competitor to Amazon. The best part was while I was waiting for it to ship to me the price came down $100 not once but twice. Each time I called Amazon and they honored the price as the Sony had not shipped yet. So to get a 60" Sony SXRD at $1799 was unbelieveable. The last I looked the tv was at $2399. So if you shop earnestly you can do well for yourself. The tv has a picture that is amazing. I coupled it with an Oppo 1080p unconverting DVD player. The combination of these two with my old DVDs is unreal. I did use CNET's detailed set up procedure for the Sony and I am quite pleased at the results. The picture when you watch a football game in HDTV is almost as good as being there. Except on CBS, they must compress the picture and send it out less than ABC, NBC or ESPN. Only on CBS do we see artifacts and blurring. The only thing I would gripe about was that the tv took 12 days to get to my house. They did bring it in, uncrate it, set it on my stand, and take the box away with them. So all in all a great experience
Fantastic TV, but be prepared to shell out for HDMI September 26, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My wife and I unexpectedly received this TV as a gift from her father (whom I cannot say enough nice things about at the moment). It is by all measures a fantastic chunk of TV.
Caveats:
* HDMI is REQUIRED for 1080p. You cannot reach the 1920x1080 resolution via VGA or any of the other inputs.
We ended up having to upgrade our Xbox 360 to the model with HDMI: Xbox 360 Console Includes 20GB Hard Drive (with HDMI) so we could watch HD-DVDs and play games at 1080p (note that there are currently only a few games which support this resolution, important examples being Halo 3 and Bioshock, but the 360 will upsample the signal well).
* The TV will pass audio from HDMI through via optical or stereo out, but it will only accept only 2-channel linear PCM. The Xbox 360 will NOT send this signal. To work around this issue, we had to also purchase this: Xbox 360 HDMI AV Cable which allows for audio to be routed independently to our receiver.
Sony SXRD 1080P HDTV purchase September 17, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased this HDTV for my mother who is 91 years old and we are both pleased with the unit. The TV was delivered without damage and it worked properly out of the box. The picture is brilliant and the colors are very true to life. I noticed that the bulb that will need replacement after 8000 or so hours can be found on the Internet for as little as $160 dollars. All in all this was a very good transaction and my mother is extremely happy with the 'big screen' tv.
