Product Description

The GB5108 has a 51-inch screen and includes 480p progressive scan, three line comb filter, two component video inputs (2YpbPr), one S-Video input, one RF input, two rear AV inputs, three picture mode (normal, theater, memory), dual antenna jack, BBE Sound, variable audio output, and second surface mirror.

Amazon.com Product Description
Get affordable high-resolution images on a standard 4:3 ratio screen with Apex's GB-5108 projection set. This 51-inch monster is ideal for DVD viewing, from its progressive-scan component-video inputs (for use with a compatible DVD player) to its four-line comb filter and velocity-scan modulation technology. A progressive-scan DVD player output, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.

Velocity-scan modulation improves the definition at this set's picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas. The GB-5108's 2D Y/C four-line comb filter further enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt).

In the audio department, BBE sound simulates surround sound through two channels, either the set's or an external pair. When listening through external speakers, you can still control the volume right from the remote control after connecting the set's variable audio outputs to an amp or receiver. The set offers two component-video inputs (one for standard component-video, one for progressive-scan), two S-video inputs, one RF input (compatible with antennas and older VCRs), two rear AV inputs, and one set of front AV inputs.

1 out of 5 stars PIECE OF JUNK......just a big silver door stop !!!   July 18, 2007
I bought this TV in June 2003. The first year it needed major repair. I had a service contract, so repair was "free." A couple of months later it needed repair again. Both times, I was without TV for about a week. The customer service (HA HA HA) was so bad that both the local repair shop and I spent a whole day trying to get the Tech. Manual. FINALLY, I was able to get to a site where it could be downloaded.
Can you imagine? They (APEX) are so screwed up that they don't even issue manuals to their authorized repair companies.
Anyway, now in 2007 I no longer have a service contract, and NO REPAIR company wants to handle APEX' bussiness. They absolutly refuse. I finally found one guy who did come out ... after trying everything he concluded that the POWER SUPPLY was insufficient, and ruined the CONVERGENCE CIRCUIT. He said he could send it back to APEX, but the last time he did so, they kept it for 6 weeks, and returned it unrepaired. It would cost me about $650.00 to fix, IF he could get APEX to replace the part.
If you want it, I'm listing it on eBay for $50.00. Maybe someone will want it for other parts. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER APEX PRODUCT.

1 out of 5 stars Price seem to good to be true? IT IS!   April 4, 2006
First off, anyone who has written a positive review for this TV probably wrote that review right after receiving it. If you are foolish enough to purchase this thing and not heed the warnings, wait a couple months before writing your review. I guarantee you that you won't have anything nice to say about it. The picture goes in and out on a weekly basis.

My wife got in touch with customer service on the first call (amazing, considering what the other reviews said). They had her reset the TV, which didn't work. Their next solution was for us to call a service technician. A month after purchase and we need to call someone to look at it? Unbelievable!

1 out of 5 stars Always Busy Custmer Cervice, and of-no-use Web Site   March 14, 2004

I purchased this TV last October.
One day in early March when I was watching on CNN Headline news,
I noticed it suddenly got double image.

I checked a manual, and tried so hard to fix it but couldn't.
There's a menu called "Convergence", however,
I can't move red lines horizontaly. So it's of no use at all.

You can ask question from their web site.
But I've never had any reply.
Also I could find local service centers in WV,
one couldn't reach at all, and the other told me it's too far.

When I call to their customer service center (1-866-427-3946,
I'd had pretty hard time finding that number on their website),
it's always busy. I have to try, try, try, and try in order to
speak to customer service persons.

And then, they told me a local (an hour away from home,
even though I live in a capitol city!!) service center's phone #.
I called them and made a reservation for repairment.
But on the day they supposed to come,
they called me and there should be another center nearer,
and told me to call to hard-to-catch customer service again.

Ah, I gotta try again on Monday...
I have no idea of when I can see clear (normal) image again.
I would defenately not recommend this company's products
from my experience.

5 out of 5 stars CONVINCEDAPEXFAN   December 14, 2003
Im not sure what some of these complaints are about.Ive recieved my tv and could not be any happier. You definitely need digital cable or satilite to get the best picture but its well worth it. For this price you could not go wrong.I have also purchased an APEX dvd player and never had any trouble with it.Based on my personal experiences with APEX'S products I would have no problem buying any of their products. This is a whole lot of tv and the sound is great also.

3 out of 5 stars Customer service is terrible!   December 13, 2003
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

The t.v. is great except for some lines that go directly down the center of the screen while watching a dvd or playing a video game. The picture quality is great, but I only give it 3 stars because of the absolutley terrible customer service. They gave me the run-around for so long that my 90 warranty had expired before I could ever ger the t.v. repaired. I will not buy Apex products anymore because of their customer service.
