They're "Average" July 2, 2008 These headphones are great if you want something inexpensive and average quality. I bought these because I needed something quick after my iPod earbuds broke. They got pretty good reviews and the price was right, so I decided it would be a 'smart buy'.
The sound quality is my biggest problem. I listen to music a lot and I believe these ear buds are probably doing damage to my ear because I have to turn them up so high to hear anything when I'm commuting. I used to use Sony MDR-V150 Monitor Series Headphones with Reversible Earcups which have awesome sound quality, but were cumbersome while traveling. So when I switched to these I noticed the downgrade in sound quality immediately.
Another problem is the shape and construction of the bud. At work I some times fiddle with these in my hand and I somehow managed to pop the speakers out of the plastic casing. This didn't "break" them, but I find it weird and kinda "cheap" that this happened. They also fall out of my ear easily.
However, it's not all bad. You get what you pay for. These are priced right. If you're looking for an inexpensive set of ear buds and don't mind sacrificing some sound quality I'd say these are for you! However, if you're used to high quality output and/or are a commuter and will be in somewhat loud environments, I'd say keep looking, I still am!
Compared to the iPod ear buds, I'd say they're pretty comparable. Maybe the iPod ear buds have better sound, but not by much. Also, the little volume knob is convenient, but doesn't adjust precisely.
Best headphones at this price, hands down December 6, 2007 I bought these a few weeks ago and have used them almost everyday since them. For this price, you can't do any better. They are very comfortable, the sound quality is great, and the volume control on the line is a very useful feature. I've owned multiple pairs of other earbud headphones with the detachable ear-fitting pads and I've managed to lose all of them within a few months. These are definitely the best headphones you can buy for this price.
Really comfortable to wear September 21, 2006 If there was a rating for comfort level of these earbuds I give it 5 stars. I only gave it 3 stars because soundwise, I wish it had more bass, I find the overall sound too "bright" for me. But generally ok, but not that great. I also like 'phones with volume control, I find the JVC had the weakest volume boost around. I think they did this cos they warned against extended listening at hight volumes on their packaging. No biggie, still works for me, just have to up the volume a bit on my player.
I used to have Sony's which I recommend too, but having had them for less than 6 months, the wires cut out on me a week ago. I've subsequently read numerous reviews that it was it's weakness so I didn't want to buy them again and wanted to try out a different brand. I'm willing to stick with these, for the price they seem well-made and thumbs up to the elastic material of the buds that needs no foam and feels like they're not even there.
GREAT HEADPHONES July 28, 2006 I got these for my mp3 player because the ones that came with it were terrible and broke soon after I got them. But these headphones were terrific! They take a lot of abuse from being thrown around all the time without breaking.
Also, the built-in volume control is perfect, barely thicker than the cord, so it can still wrap around an mp3 player fine.
I highly recommend this product to anyone looking for great earbuds at a low price!
JVC HAF91 Earbud July 22, 2006 Very good product, nice case to move around with. I would have given a 5 star rating but the volume slide control only lowers the volume and doesn't totaly turn down the sound in case you need to hear something around you going on, but most others don't even have that. The sound is great. I would recommend them and the price is good.
