Product Description GigaWorks T40 stereo speakers will fascinate you with their impressive audio delivery. Combining premium components with Creative's many years of leadership in world-class audio, each satellite delivers spacious, balanced sound, thanks to the potent combination of two high-performance midrange drivers and a dedicated high-end tweeter in MTM (midrange-tweeter-midrange) configuration, plus BasXPort technology for strong, dynamic bass without a subwoofer. The midrange drivers have woven glass fiber cones for warmth and stability, while each tweeter has a cloth dome for crystal clarity. Front mounted controls for power, volume, bass and treble, plus a versatile adaptor, made these speakers great partners for DVD players and televisions as well as PCs.

Fair December 2, 2008 These are ok speakers but they can't come close to others that have a bass unit. I was given a Altec with a bass and was surprise to find the quality difference. Once you use the quality type you cant go back to the others...
Great speakers! December 2, 2008 After doing some research on speakers that were not too bulky I bought these for my home PowerMac, to listen to iTunes and such. They are great! A few weeks later I bought another pair to replace an again pair of generic speakers for my PC at work. Great value for the money!
Pretty dern good, for the size. December 2, 2008 My four-star rating is an average between 4.5 stars for the physical package, which is solid, good-looking and relatively compact, and 3.5 stars for sound quality, which is pretty dern good but leaves a little to be desired.
Initially, I wasn't too happy with the sound coming out of these speakers, though it was wildly better than from the cheap Radio Shack speakers they replaced. The T40's sounded boxy, seemed deficient in the bass end, and a bit shrill in the high range. I went to work with the graphic equalizer packaged with my Creative Labs notebook sound card, and managed to trim them out so they sounded quite impressive, depending greatly on the program material of course.
I tried a lot of different music, from rock to organ to classical chamber music, adjusting the graphic equalizer for what sounded like reasonable balance amongst the lot.
Then I connected a test oscillator to the input of the sound board and swept through the audible range, adjusting the equalizer so that the subjective sound output from the speakers was constant over the whole range. At age 64, my hearing is good up to about 8 Khz. Above that, no guarantees.
For the technically inclined, here are the equalizer settings I settled on:
31 Hz = +9.7 db 62 Hz = +5 db 125 Hz = -2.7 db 250 Hz = -5.9 db 500 Hz = -3.2 db 1000 Hz = -0.5 db 2000 Hz = -3.4 db 4000 Hz = -2.5 db 8000 Hz = 0 db 16KHz = 0 db
These settings agreed very closely with the settings I'd made with music. The boxy sound is due to a resonance at around 250 Hz. Because of the small size of the speakers, the bass response drops off rapidly below 100 Hz, hence the big boost at the lower ranges. The speakers respond reasonably well to 48 Hz, but below that there's hardly any output, even with the large, nearly 10db boost from the equalizer.
Of course, individual tastes and the sound qualities of the room have a tremendous effect on subjective sound perception, as do differences in the way individual music is recorded. Still, I believe the settings above are a good starting point if you want to get reasonably good sound from these small speakers. For their compact size and moderate cost I can heartily recommend them.
T40s PLUS T20s November 24, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
For my birthday, I received a pair of T 20 speakers for my laptop and was blown away. I instantly got crazy and bought a pair of T40s and set the T20s on their sides on shelves up at head level and placed the T40s on either side of my laptop. TALK ABOUT FULL SOUND. Listening to some Pink Floyd on these guys combined and you feel like you are at the concert. Best sounding speakers ever and combining the T20s with T40s (if you have 2 headphone jacks) and instantly you feel surrounded in crystal clear sound. I HIGHLY recommend these speakers or if you are willing to pay the extra, these combined with the T20s. My friends are absolutely jealous.
Middle Of The Road Speaker NOT! November 18, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've been in the sound business for a little over 40 years, so I had my doubts about this speaker. But it fills a large room with full spectrum sound. The bass is clean yet full. The mids and highs are full and crisp. The best for the price hands down.
