I think I just entered the 21st century November 27, 2008 0 out of 6 found this review helpful
Fed ex dropped by today in a Budget rent a truck and I thought...OH NO!...some unshaven goofball who was hired by Fed-ex because of the holiday overload dropping off my BRAND NEW ONKYO SURROUND SOUND RECIEVER, and I just hope it hasn't been THRASHED!...Well,the guy was an unshaven, short guy who could barely carry my prize to the door.I saw his face peering out the side of the box as he came up the driveway and my heart was a poundin.I was anticipating some unknown factor I hadn't counted on because of the Budget truck thing...but no worrys you all.... I met him halfway in the driveway and he handed me my new gadget..safe and sound. His FED-EX truck had broken down and was given the Budget rental to drive his route instead. As he handed me the box,he said "ENJOY"...what a nice man who had the Christams spirit....yes..I said Christmas..not holiday..that really would of been a hypacritcal observation to SAY HOLIDAY....,so you left wing progressive liberals just cool out...and remember what I said when you open your presents at the 'Holiday' you don't celebrate. Jesus died as the last sacrifice for your sins...no man is justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ. So quit trying to be good....anyway...how did we get into all that?...well it's true...if you really want peace in your life and are tired of all the junk built up that drives you....let it go! He will give you a new life!... Ok,now, back to the subject at hand. The last time I bought a reciever was in 1978 and after installing this one.....I KNEW I had stepped up a notch..or two.. This machine has got it goin on... I read reviews for a month on Sonys and Pioneers etc. that had good but not rave reviews and told a friend I would NEVER buy an Onkyo.....only because of the name....it sounds like a PIG ....or a bad stomach flu. ...I mean, come on...who wouldn't buy a Sony..or a Pioneer...they're a name brand and cream of the crop.....but no can do. After reading all the good reviews past and present on the Pig,I was sold. The looks, the reputation, the price...on sale at Amazon,no tax, free shipping...I mean, come on,I wanted to be in the "what's happening now club of the 21st century"...and going to Heaven along the way. Highly recommended! sicerely..farmer john ....oynk! oynk!
Great value October 30, 2008 I'm not an audiophile, and besides, my wife can't stand me really blasting the volume. This unit replaced a much more expensive ampliflier that finally lost the center channel for my Bose bass + 3 cube speaker system; the sound is just teriffic. I don't know how it would sound in a very large room with very expensive speakers, but it sounds great in our den. By the way, it gets the signal (both the CDs in the server, and the Internet radio stations) through a wireless Sonos system, and amplifies it without distortion that I can hear, as much as you would want, with clarity across the range.
Great Low Cost Receiver October 17, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Can't go wrong with this receiver for your AV system. Looks great, doesn't break the bank, and has all the features you need. It was easy to use, and setup per the instructions. I suggest you download the instructions and read them ahead of time so you can get all the cables you need. Sounds great even through an unpowered sub woofer. Also the connections are laid out nicely compared to other receivers.
You get what you pay for. October 15, 2008 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
This unit is difficult to set up. Auto config for speakers does not work. Manual is a joke. Sound quality is poor to bad. I would not buy another Onkyo product. I am back to Sony next time.
Onkyo Home Theater Experience October 4, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We actually purchased 2 Onkyo TX-SR304B receivers about three weeks ago from Amazon at a surprisingly good price. We're using one Onkyo in our living room and one in the bedroom to enhance the sound from our new HD Samsung TVs.
[1] The dark black receiver looks great. [2] The audio experience brings a new dimension to the HD experience. I can't begin to describe the difference between listening to the tiny TV speakers vs. the sound coming out of true audio speakers. [3] The connectors in the back are plentiful and color coded so that part of the process was relatively easy. [4] Although it isn't great, the Onkyo user manual is actually better than I expected. It helped me set up both systems with only one minor problem. And that one problem was my lack of understanding on how to set up a surround sound speaker system. I contacted Onkyo's live tech support via telephone and that was very helpful. It's nice to know you can call them up with any questions.
One of our HD systems has the traditional 2 bookshelf speakers and the other one is a Polk Audio surround sound system. For most TV programming the 2 bookshelf speaker system is more than adequate. However, with Verizon FIOS HD programming, there are a couple of HD channels that broadcast concerts in surround sound and that's where the Polk Audio speakers [relatively inexpensive @ $400 for the entire system] truly shine. The surround sound system also makes a difference when playing DVDs.
However, in my opinion, if you simply hook up two traditional quality bookshelf speakers to the Onkyo receiver, as opposed to a surround sound speaker system, you will be very happy. At the very least, the audio experience is far better than listening via the TV's speakers.
I've always read about Onkyo's quality and this is the first time I experienced it myself. If you're looking for an outstanding receiver at a very fair price, I highly recommend the Onkyo TX-SR304B.
