4 out of 5 stars Big loud and heavy   November 22, 2008
Starting with the Yamaha rv2700 receiver and the Yamaha DVD player 2700 - monster speaker wire to these bad boys and you will be amazed. Stereo comes alive. They are really big. Really heavy, geeks dream so buy the wife earrings whilst you throw down 600 or so for a very cool really loud ride. Guy these will rattle the walls. Still come off clear. In case you're wondering the center cs360 with a sub and rears make a very strong powerful home system.

5 out of 5 stars Old school large towers   October 29, 2008
I had read lots of reviews on these speakers and can say that those reviews were very accurate. I currently have the Betas bi-amped to an Onkyo 7.1 ch receiver and the sound is breathtaking. At full blast on movies such as Pirates of the Caribbean and Master & Commander, the speakers tackle and weave together everything from soundtrack to dialog to explosive effects masterfully. They did take a little breaking in to get over some initial tinny sound at higher volumes. I've had these speakers now for almost a year and they show no signs of straining.

Listening to music, especially acoustic tracks is a joy. I often turn off my subwoofer and let the Betas handle the tracks by themselves. They reproduce the sound with excellent clarity and create a nice, full sound stage.

I will warn that these are powerful speakers and can get boomy if you don't match them right. My previous receiver was an old Sony that could not compensate well, and would let the mains overpower my other speakers (which are not Infinitys). My current unit has ironed out all the kinks.

At this point, the Betas have gotten a little old, but at $250/speaker they are an absolute bargain and can still compete with speakers twice that price. If you find them and are looking for big and powerful, go for it!

5 out of 5 stars Very nice speakers   October 24, 2008
I've had these for about a month now and love them. They have pretty decent bass on there own, but sound great with a powered sub. I was very happy to hear things I had not been able to hear before when listening to music. I was particularly amazed at the additional nuances when listening to Beethoven. Very happy with them!

5 out of 5 stars A super deal if you can still find them!!!   April 9, 2008
I got two of these babies in Cherrywood finish on a closeout special. They are replacing my old Infinity Studio Monitors 150's so I was somewhat worried about loss of bass response. (The 150's have 15" woofers) I needn't have worried as these speakers have a nice tight low range and are very well balanced through the whole spectrum. They are truly a best buy for the price. Pick a pair of these up if you can still find them...you will not be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Behold the big black MONOLITHS!   March 30, 2008

I've owned on older pair of Infinity KAPPA 6's for years and was always thrilled with them, but I was just tired of the woodgrain finish (70's look), needed an upgrade and mostly, wanted the option to Bi-AMP and Bi-WIRE...these babies had that! I just purchased a Denon 2308 receiver (1oo watts x 7) and had that extra "Speakers b" output just being wasted in the back. Not anymore!! I used "speakers a" for the bass and "speakers b" for the mids and highs, slipped off the brass terminal thingees on the Beta 50s, and BEHOLD! I'm now pushing 200 watts per speaker. Sweet mother Mary, these boys can cook! Very clear, very warm sound. My old KAPPAS only had one woofer each, these have two. Plus, they look GREAT. I'm not too thrilled about the metal grills (appreance-wise) but they're ok...I have them off right now to admire the cones (I know,...get a life!). You really cannot go wrong with these for the price. I was looking into some "ultra high end" speakers like Canton, but come on....cash is an issue these days! These are really a bargin, and, I love Infinity quality (car and home!) I read that these need "warm-in" time? OK....but they're already great. They are deeper than expected (size wise) and that's fine by me. One thing however: the instruction manual says they come with carpet spikes, mine did NOT. They have rubber feet, but no spikes. I see on the Infinity web site, these speakers are not even listed anymore?? How did they go out of production so quickly? Anyway...I'm happy with these. Be sure to Bi-Amp and Bi-Wire if you can and for god's sake, don't use cheesy wire!! It DOES make a difference folks. Enjoy the sounds!!!
