Designed for small to mid-sized rooms, the Polk PSW303 100-watt powered subwoofer makes a great addition to your home theater or stereo system. The sub features an 8-inch long-throw driver that produces a longer excursion and better linearity than most comparably sized models, along with slot-load venting that improves the bass response by dramatically minimizing turbulence, noise, and distortion. The resulting thunderous bass shakes out all the thrills and chills of your favorite movie soundtracks, while its accurate musicality makes you sit up and take notice whether you're listening to rump-shaking hip-hop or a powerful classical piece. And unlike many subwoofers, this modest-sized unit fits easily in a cabinet or behind furniture, where it won't attract undue attention. Contributing to the distortion-free bass response is the rock-solid medium-density fiberboard (MDF) housing, which includes a 1-inch-thick front baffle that minimizes panel resonance. Additional features include a hi-roll surround that supports longer excursion; a high-current 100-watt continuous (260 watts dynamic) power amplifier; adjustable low-pass crossover, phase switch, and volume controls; and an auto on/off circuit that automatically turns on the subwoofer when it senses a program signal. If no signal is detected, the amplifier turns off within 15 minutes. The PSW303, which sports a genuine wood veneer finish in black, includes an unfiltered LFE input for use with low-pass filtered output jacks along with filtered speaker-level and line-level inputs. As a final bonus, the sub is magnetically shielded for safe, flexible placement near a TV or video monitor.  Serves its purpose June 29, 2008
I am type of person who enjoys sound quality but not inclined to spend more for high end audio components. This subwoofer provides the deep bass required for my 5 speaker system. The sound provided when watching movies is similar to the movie theatre experience.
My computer audio library is linked to the entertainment sound system and I am less than enthused by the bass for this purpose. I enjoy rock music and feel as if the bass is more inclined to serve hip hop music. The tight clear sound from bass guitar is lost in deep reverberating bass.

This sub kicks serious BOOM. It's small size BOOM is BOOM BA BOOM BABOOM and it produces a BOOMing incredible amount of TIGHT, ACCURATE, CHEST POUNDING BASS.

Small size and smaller cost..but what a performer. Our bedroom, game room, and my wife's craft room jump to the beat of this little black box. Bought as a music sub, I can vouch from my most recent viewing of Independence Day on cable in our game room...it can kick _ _ _ _ too. Don't be afraid of the price or the size for a small to mid small room and use corner placement and you will be happy! Lots of knobs that work and do the right thing too. I was very suprised to find it can boogey!! I have three of them in different environments and they all are up to the task.
great sub for medium size family room May 15, 2008
Works great with my other polk speakers. The sub can be configured many different ways. I use a basic sub cable and it sounds clean and punchy (not too boomy). I run it at half volume and it's enough for my 40'x18' room.

This is another great product manufactured by Polk Audio. My room size is 14 X 17 and it does a great job. There are no rattles or distortion.
