5 out of 5 stars Extending Sataellite   August 16, 2008
Does anyone have suggestions about products to lengthen the satellite speaker locations for this product?

5 out of 5 stars Swweeet Sound!   August 10, 2008

For the price of these speakers, I might install some in my car! The bass is amazing thanks Amazon! Cheapest price out there on these.

5 out of 5 stars Great stuff   August 9, 2008
These speakers are great. I've played tons of movies on them, played games, and just listened to music. They haven't given me a single problem and they sound great. I'm no audiophile so I can't get too technical but they work and sound awesome to me.

The only issue I can come up with to mark down on them is that I can't plug in headphones into the little control pod with one hand. Its a tad annoying but that's the only issue I've come across.

Other than that its been great and it will be even greater when I get my mail in rebate cash back.

2 out of 5 stars Horrible for music.   July 25, 2008
These are fine (the subwoofer is great) if you're going to use them for sources where the audio is already mixed for a 5.1 setup (gaming or watching DVDs), but horrible when it comes to music.

There are basically two options for music - a basic mode in which stereo is delivered solely by the two front satellites (which works fine, but then why bother with a 5.1 speaker system?), or the "Music Matrix" mode which supposedly "enhances stereo music" (sounds like a great idea; in practice it ruins the music) by converting it to 5.1 surround sound.

What this "Music Matrix" mode tries to do is break down the stereo signal into the different channels represented by the 5.1 - which sounds great, but in practice just seems to shift the high-range audio to the rear satellites. The result is front speakers lacking treble and rear speakers lacking bass. This might be fine if it did this consistently, but it doesn't. You can hear parts of songs shift noticeably from the front to the rear and back (imagine a single drum beat being split into sections so that it resembles static - very distracting), and for no apparent reason.

I tried using these to replace my old Altec Lansing ADA 885 system, but I can't handle such poor quality audio. I'm trying the higher-end Logitech Z-5500 next - hopefully those will do better on the hardware decoding front.

3 out of 5 stars Decent sound for the price.   July 17, 2008
This speaker set is a good value for the money. The sound from the satellites is not the most crisp for music, but good for gaming, it's main target audience. It seems to lean toward heavy mid-range, rather than higher frequency highs. The bass is a bit muddy if turned up too loud, as the subwoofer is not really large enough to handle big thumpin bass. But it is good enough for some serious bass in movies.

I recently had the big amp on my set of Creative Gigaworks S750 7.1 surround speakers set burn up after 5 years of heavy use. That system had 700 watts of power - 210 for the sub alone, and is without a doubt the best computer speakers I've ever heard. Even better than Klipsch 5.1's, of which I'm a big fan. But at $499, I was not happy to find out the Gigaworks amp burning out is a common problem with that speaker set, so I opted for a more disposable set that wouldn't upset me if it burned up.

The G51 is a solid value with decent sound, but audiophiles should stay away. If your budget is higher, go for the Klipsch 5.1's.
