 Tremendous Value and Performance November 15, 2008
I have been looking for an inexpensive solution to get music and internet radio in several rooms throughout my home. I didn't want to go through the hassle of running wires and all that stuff, so I settled on the Logitech Squeezebox Duet and these Acoustic Research wireless speakers. The two units perform flawlessly together! Because these speakers can be operated in mono or stereo mode (switch on the back) I am able to place one upstairs in my bathroom, and the other one on an end table in my living room.
I am really impressed by the range and clarity of these speakers. I have had wireless speakers in the past and the static was always apparent. Not only do these speakers have ZERO interference, but there's no manual adjustment required for tuning! They automatically tune themselves and the results are crystal clear.
Be sure to turn up the volume of the audio source you are feeding these speakers or the receiver will not turn on! I thought my receiver was defective, until I turned the volume up on my Squeezebox Duet receiver then it popped right on.
These really are great speakers, and they are bigger than they look on this website!

I've had these things for a week now. I bought these things in hopes to have wireless surround speakers. Unfortunately my A/V receiver does not have any RCA outs for these speakers. There is a way around this problem however. A line out converter (LOC). It allows you to run wire to the rear speakers on the receiver and then plug the RCA's into the LOC. The problem with this quality suffers. I keep getting "pops" and distortion at times when there is the slightest interference to the transmitter. I am not sure if its the speakers, LOC, or the transmitter (or all of them combined) but the pop happens about every 30 seconds or so. My guess it is my LOC causing the popping noise since I had them hooked up in the traditional sense and had no problems.
These speakers do work very well when they are used for alternate room speakers. However, I would not recommend using these for rear surround sound speakers unless you spring for a really nice LOC ($50 or so).

I bought these speakers the first time and set them up and everything worked great, except one speaker did not work. Returned the whole thing and received a replacement and the transmitter did not work. I give up. Not worth the hassle.

I ordered these for my mother who lives in a woodframe, two story townhouse. She wanted to be able to move from room to room and still listen to music or books on tape. We worried that interference might make wireless speakers useless.
She was arranging to have the place wired but I convinced her the job was not as easy as expected, and might result in a real mess. Best to gamble on a wireless solution first.
Well we're both glad we did. There isn't a peep of interference. And the sound is awesome! She uses AC power and positions them in out of the way corners; under the buffet and on top of a kitchen cabinet. She's even tried them out in the garage (3 walls and 40 feet away). They aren't set up for stereo as they're in different rooms, but a second set would address that.
I suspect that as cordless phones and wifi networks have migrated to higher frequencies there is less contention for the 900 MHz band.
Anyway... we have no regrets.
Good, but not a replacement for existing speakers October 25, 2008

I bought these speakers with the intent of replacing two regular speakers in my receiver. I did not find anything that would indicate that this would not work, but the only way to hook these into my system with through a 1/8" headset, 1/4" head phone or an RCA output. There is no option for hooking it into a regular speaker output to play along with other wired speakers in the house. When plugged into these outputs, they worked great....it was just not what I thought it was going to be.
