Amazon.com Product Description
Surround your iPod with legendary JBL sound with the Radial high-performance loudspeaker, which delivers clean, powerful high- and mid-frequency sound along with plenty of deep, distortion-free bass. As a music system, the Radial stands alone, with four Odyssey full-range drivers and a single low-frequency neodymium driver producing a rich audio performance. As a computer peripheral, it replaces (and seriously upgrades) your external speakers and subwoofer, giving your games and music streams some serious punch. And as a multimedia entertainment center, it not only plays your favorite iPod tunes, but sends your iPod photos and videos to a TV monitor. However and wherever you use it, the Radial is a high-performance wonder.

The Radial incorporates a universal iPod dock adapter, which is compatible with most docking versions of the iPod, including the iPod video 5G and 5.5G and the iPod nano 1G and 2G. Simply slide your iPod into the dock and you're set--no additional cords to connect or adapters to fuss with. As an added convenience, the Radial also offers an auxiliary input for connecting a variety of other portable audio devices, including the iPod shuffle, personal MP3 and CD players, desktop and laptop computers (all platforms), and satellite radio receivers. As long as your portable audio device has a 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack connection, you can play the audio through your Radial speaker.

As a bonus, the Radial comes with a wireless RF remote control, giving you the freedom to enjoy your music from across the room, in another room, or outside up to 20 feet. The wireless remote lets you easily change tracks, browse libraries, adjust the settings, and scroll through the extras. Other details include a sleek black housing, convenient one-touch volume and muting controls, a computer-optimized equalization system that produces a complete sound stage, and a USB 2.0 cable for synching and charging your iPod. The Radial, which offers a frequency response of 40 Hz to 20 kHz, measures 12 inches wide by 10.5 inches tall and weighs 2.5 pounds. It's also backed by a one-year warranty.

5 out of 5 stars Great sound in a smallish, attractive design.   November 16, 2008
I considered the JBL Onstage and the Micro Radial and opted for this one because I was able to get it for just over $100. I just wanted a nice, small system I could move around between rooms in a small house. I'm more of a music lover than an audiophile and wasn't expecting $500 sound from this device anyway, but I'm very impressed with its perfomance. I've put it through the runs with everything from AC/DC to Arvo Part, and the sound is even better than I expected. There is some slight breakup while playing bass-heavy music, as other reviews have noted, but I think it's only an issue if that's the bulk of your music library. As for the other bells and whistles, I don't have any strong opinions on the layout of the controls, etc. I do like presence of the S-video output and intend to make use of it in the future. For what I paid and what I expected, it's a great system.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome speaker system!   November 6, 2008
Works and sounds great! The remote is very handy! Has a great look to it and it seems to be something that lasts a long time. Nice work JBL!

5 out of 5 stars Great power in a cute little package   July 26, 2008

I love this thing. I did a lot of research for a great-sounding iPod dock/speaker system before buying so I expected it to be great, and I have not been disappointed. It has great sound and great power, more than I can ever use in my flat without infuriating my neighbors. It's attractive and compact. My only complaint is that the volume moves up/down in noticeable increments, so it's occasionally difficult to get it at the precise volume I'd like (again, the neighbors), but that is a very minor annoyance. The little remote takes a bit of thought to use but is quite easy once you get the hang of it, and there is a handy sticker guide to the buttons on the back of the remote, if you need a hint. It wasn't the cheapest one around, but once you listen to it the reason why is obvious; it is absolutely worth the extra spend.

5 out of 5 stars Great sound for a great price.   July 25, 2008
I love my JBL speaker. After reading all the reviews from others, I decided to go with the less expensive model at $99. I was not disappointed; in fact, I was thrilled. I bought a Logitech for $129 awhile back and the sound is not nearly as good. I use the speaker in workshops for movement so I really want a great sound. I am so grateful for everyone else's reviews! Great product!

2 out of 5 stars Listen to this...   July 20, 2008

I bought one of these at Walmart for $125 which is waaaaaaaaay cheaper than the $200 - $250 price tags you see everywhere else. It didn't come close to measuring up to some of the reviews I had read. Even at low volumes it doesn't handle bass very well. When higher volumes are attempted the speaker struggles to maintain any type of clarity. There's also no battery operation which limits any kind of portability. Overall this speaker did not come close to providing a quality sound source for my music. Ironically, the Micro version, which is a smaller sister model, performed better in terms of putting out a cleaner sound. But it doesn't have the power to entertain. All that being said, for the same price there are a few superior pieces of equipment out there and the Altec IM7 stands at the top.
