Product Description Indulge in an unbeatable home cinema experience with this system. Delivering incredible surround sound and clear pictures via HDMI 1080p upscaling, it also plays from virtually any type of disc and from USB drives and portable media players.Use the docking station for your iPod, and enjoy music from your iPod on the home theater system. HDMI 1080p upscaling delivers images that are crystal clear. Movies in standard definition can now be enjoyed in true high definition resolution - ensuring more details and more true-to-life pictures. Progressive Scan (represented by "p" in "1080p') eliminates the line structure prevalent on TV screens, again ensuring relentlessly sharp images. To top it off, HDMI makes a direct digital connection that can carry uncompressed digital HD video as well as digital multichannel audio, without conversions to analog - delivering perfect picture and sound quality, completely free from noise.

Works great August 13, 2008 Speakers are powerful enough considering the price. Upscale conversion works great with my HDTV. The product comes with an Ipod dock which is definitely a plus...you can even control your Ipod using the DVD remote that comes with it.
I found out that if you are connected to your TV via HDMI, you need to turn off HMDI audio out in the options menu. That way, the digital audio still comes off the DVD speakers.
USB connector work well with my AVI files. My cable box is even connected through this using the digital input connection.
Great, until it exploded! August 2, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Philips sent me this model (HTS3566D) after the old model (HTS3555) I had was having problems. The old system would not sync the audio with the video. Very annoying problem... they sent me 3 HTS3555's as replacements and they all had the same problem.
Eventually they sent me a new unit, this model. This one was great, had no audio sync problems... that is until it blew up! I was watching TV with my home theater system on and suddenly I heard a POP and a loud buzzing coming out the of the speakers (The volume was not turned up loud either, just normal volume)! The stereo would not turn off either. I had to unplug it. Now when I plug it in it makes a loud buzzing sound and the LCD screen does not light up... only loud buzzes.
Philips is sending me a replacement unit. I hope that it does not explode too! I definitely would not buy this unit again though knowing that mine exploded!
What a system !!! July 2, 2008 I bought it and hook up that night. Sound is great. It play DVD, CD, VCD, USB devices. It play most of media files and DivX files. If sound is good, it plays very good, same like in Movie Theater.
doesn't work with HDMI June 12, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've had this product for about a week, and will be returning it this coming weekend.
Simply put, it doesn't work in HDMI.
If you connect an HDMI cable to the output port on the back of the system, then NO SOUND will come from the speakers from ANY SOURCE. But if you hook up with the old, crummy, AV video cable then suddenly everything works.
Why on earth would you pay for a system advertised as "1080P" if the HDMI port on the back screws everything up?
Ipod dock? No sound. DVD mode? No sound. Aux inputs? No sound.
I updated the firmware to the latest version (didn't help) and then called philips customer service (didn't help). It's going back to the store, and will be replaced by a product that works as advertised.
