From the Manufacturer You'll find very little differentiation between most entry-level home theater receivers: passable performance, negligible processing capabilities and little (if any) versatility. The TX-SR304 5.1-channel home theater receiver doesn't follow that well-trodden path. By giving you the connections to the A/V components on everyone's lips todayHDTVs, digital video recorders, gaming consoles, etcthe TX-SR304 wants to broaden your entertainment possibilities, not limit them to basic DVD and CD playback. Naturally, you'll want the audio quality associated with the Onkyo name. That's why we've included the circuitry and quality parts found in other Onkyo home theater receivers: Optimum Gain Volume Circuitry, 192 kHz/24-bit DACs, a 32-bit DSP chip, and an H.C.P.S. (High Current Power Supply) transformer. Finally, keeping in line with what's really important, the TX-SR304 provides a user-friendly, accessible solution to home entertainment. Key technology Features: 192 kHz/24bit AD Converters: Costly, extremely powerful digital-to-analog converters , that not only boast a dynamic range of 120 dB, they process information faster and are virtually resistant to clock jitter, to ensure the best possible performance from DVD-Audio, DVD-Video and audio CD. CinemaFILTER: The tonal balance of a film soundtrack can be edgy and bright when played back over audio equipment in your homethis is because film soundtracks are designed to be played back in large theaters, using commercial equipment. Onkyo has developed its own solution that restores the correct tonal balance of a movie soundtrack in the smaller environs of your home theater. Dolby Digital EX / Pro-Logic II: Home theater realism reaches new heights with the creation of Dolby Digital EX. By adding a matrix-encoded surround back channel derived from the existing discrete left and right surround channels, the lack of rear surround in 5.1 channel is eliminated. The result - a fuller 360 experience is created
even from 5.1-channel DVD releases. Best results are obtained when Dolby Digital EX is used with movie soundtracks recorded with Dolby Digital Surround EX. Pro-Logic II is the latest improvement on the original Pro-Logic standard. Pro-Logic II provides a full-range signal to the five main channels, in addition to a subwoofer channel. This creates a realistic surround environment from a two-channel source, such as CD, Tape, FM Radio, etc. RI (Remote Interactive): With Onkyo's exclusive RI (Remote Interactive) system capability, you can integrate and operate all compatible components through a single remote control. What's more, RI capability enables you to simply connect the iPod to your receiver through Onkyo's RI Dock for the iPod (DS-A1). Your iPod effectively becomes another Onkyo component from which you can relish a fuller sound that just can't be experienced through headphones. RI capability will also give you remote operability of your iPod for hands-off control over your digital music. WRAT (Wide Range Amp Technology): Imagine turning up the volume and filling your entertainment room with noise-free, impressively powerful, true-to-life sound. That's the benefit of Wide Range Amplifier Technology. Originally developed for our most expensive high-end amplifiers to handle the sonic demands of today's digital age, you'll now find WRAT even in our lowest-priced A/V receivers. The WRAT family of technologies includes a broader frequency range with lower noise entering the signal path - perfectly suited for new high resolution DVD-Audio and SACD formats.

Good low-end receiver January 6, 2009 Good low-end receiver. It took a lot of tweaking to set up the speakers and sound quality but overall a good value for the money. The sound is a little hollow compared to the warm sound of the Kenwood receiver it replaces.
Perfect for Me December 21, 2008 The receiver was well packaged, instructions for set-up and use are easy to follow (not simple but clear and precise). Trouble shooting section was also easy to follow when problems were encountered. All modes operate properly and provide ample customization to suit my music and movie requirements. Recommended for anyone wanting DIY with quality sound, no-fuss set up and dependable operation.
Great product for great price December 21, 2008 Recieved our Onkyo TX-SR304S 5.1 channel home theater receiver. Set up was easy, it appears to be of excellent quality. Can't beat the price with free shipping! Saw it advertized for $299.00 and up.

Fed ex dropped by today in a Budget rent a truck and I thought...OH NO!...some unshaven goofball who was hired by Fed-ex because of the holiday overload dropping off my BRAND NEW ONKYO SURROUND SOUND RECIEVER, and I just hope it hasn't been THRASHED!...Well,the guy was an unshaven, short guy who could barely carry my prize to the door.I saw his face peering out the side of the box as he came up the driveway and my heart was a poundin.I was anticipating some unknown factor I hadn't counted on because of the Budget truck thing...but no worrys you all.... I met him halfway in the driveway and he handed me my new gadget..safe and sound. His FED-EX truck had broken down and was given the Budget rental to drive his route instead. As he handed me the box,he said "ENJOY"...what a nice man who had the Christams spirit....yes..I said Christmas..not holiday..that really would of been a hypacritcal observation to SAY HOLIDAY....,so you left wing progressive liberals just cool out...and remember what I said when you open your presents at the 'Holiday' you don't celebrate. Jesus died as the last sacrifice for your sins...no man is justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ. So quit trying to be good....anyway...how did we get into all that?...well it's true...if you really want peace in your life and are tired of all the junk built up that drives you....let it go! He will give you a new life!... Ok,now, back to the subject at hand. The last time I bought a reciever was in 1978 and after installing this one.....I KNEW I had stepped up a notch..or two.. This machine has got it goin on... I read reviews for a month on Sonys and Pioneers etc. that had good but not rave reviews and told a friend I would NEVER buy an Onkyo.....only because of the name....it sounds like a PIG ....or a bad stomach flu. ...I mean, come on...who wouldn't buy a Sony..or a Pioneer...they're a name brand and cream of the crop.....but no can do. After reading all the good reviews past and present on the Pig,I was sold. The looks, the reputation, the price...on sale at Amazon,no tax, free shipping...I mean, come on,I wanted to be in the "what's happening now club of the 21st century"...and going to Heaven along the way. Highly recommended! sicerely..farmer john ....oynk! oynk!
Great value October 30, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm not an audiophile, and besides, my wife can't stand me really blasting the volume. This unit replaced a much more expensive ampliflier that finally lost the center channel for my Bose bass + 3 cube speaker system; the sound is just teriffic. I don't know how it would sound in a very large room with very expensive speakers, but it sounds great in our den. By the way, it gets the signal (both the CDs in the server, and the Internet radio stations) through a wireless Sonos system, and amplifies it without distortion that I can hear, as much as you would want, with clarity across the range.
